Vintage By The Sea To Return To Morecambe 2015
The Hemingway-inspired Vintage by the Sea has announced it will once again transform Morecambe’s seafront and landmark venues in September (5th & 6th September) after over 40,000 visitors took over the town in an uplifting extravaganza in 2014.
Morecambe-based organization, Deco Publique, will co-deliver the festival, along with Lancaster City Council and Hemingway Design’s Vintage Festival team, led by Morecambe-born Wayne Hemingway MBE, Gerardine Hemingway MBE and son Jack Hemingway.
The festival created a sensual delight, a big dressing-up box, a collector’s dream and a joyous creative feast for all ages. For one evocative weekend the music, fashion, film, art, design and dance from the 1920s to the 1990s that has made Britain the world’s creative and cultural hot bed was celebrated.
The site was brought alive by engaging performances that families were able to enjoy together, people experienced the wonderful feeling of making and doing taught by skilled hands in the vintage workshops and for as far as the eye could see, the seafront was rich with music, people, classic cars and glamour.
Supported by Morecambe Town Council, the fantastic setting of Morecambe’s seafront and the beautiful art deco Midland Hotel along with the iconic Winter Gardens and the old railway station will again provide the backdrop and be transformed into a multi-venue playground.
Visitors can ‘learn the dances’, take in specially curated live performances, exclusive DJ sets, classic car shows, air displays, catwalk shows, brilliantly conceived food and cocktails and advantage of the decade specific hair and beauty makeovers alongside wonderful vintage
shopping.
Returning in 2015 is the RouteMaster Bar Bus with its team of vinyl spinning DJ’s, the Charity Shop DJ who entertained the crowds with his ‘Choose Your Cheese’ pop up DJ booth and the cheekily charming Viv the Spiv who will be gracing the promenade for a second year. As a major sponsor The Midland is delighted to play a central role in hosting festival
activities such as the Design and Craft Market, Maker’s Workshops and Afternoon Teas throughout both Saturday and Sunday.
New events introduced last year including Vintage Pooch Parade in association with Cancer Care and Vintage Bike Ride By the Sea will both be back by very popular demand from local people, alongside some fabulous new attractions.
Last year the Midland Hotel Car Park was transformed into vintage vehicle lover’s paradise with over 40 classic cars and motorcycles on display. This year the vehicular extravaganza will expand as Vintage by the Sea plays host to the renowned Bradford to Morecambe Classic Car Rally with over one hundred vintage cars rolling into town to line the Promenade on
Sunday 6th.
The club nights, which brought Morecambe alive in the evenings over the Festival weekend, are now being finalised and will be announced shortly.
The stunning Winter Gardens will host the best DJ’s in Northern Soul, Rock n Roll and 80s and 90s House music, ensuring an incredible weekend of entertainment and music from every era. The Torch Club Ball will return to The Midland with a special wartime theme. To book a ticket to the Torch Club Ball, an afternoon tea package or accommodation at The Midland during the festival weekend call 08456 015478.
Anne Marie Harrison, Economic Development Manager, said: "Last year’s Vintage Festival was a roaring success and reached out to a new generation of visitors, encouraging them to fall in love with Morecambe and come back again and again. I'm looking forward to enjoying the
atmosphere at this year’s event and strolling down the promenade as our communities come together again to enjoy the best that our district has to offer.”
Wayne Hemingway said “Being born in Morecambe, it means a lot personally to me to be able to bring our Vintage Festival to the town and see so many people flocking to the seafront. Festivals like Vintage by The Sea can do so much for the wellbeing of a place and add a feel good factor that spreads far beyond the local community. We can’t wait to announce the full line up."
Simon Berry Chairman of English Lakes Hotels Resorts & Venues which runs The Midland said “ Ever since the first ever vintage by the sea event which celebrated the 80th birthday of The Midland it has gone from strength to strength as the highlight of the calendar in Morecambe. We were so proud that the inaugural event was recently recognised as the Lancashire tourism event of the year and are looking forward in another spectacular
weekend this September”
