Update on Impact of Flooding on LCC Services
The impact of the weekend's extraordinary weather is still being felt across the North of the county.
More than 30 schools are still closed but many are expected to reopen tomorrow as electricity is restored. Parents and carers are advised to stay in contact with their children's schools to stay abreast of the situation. Information is also available on the county council website.
Whilst significant progress has been made in reopening bridges and clearing roads, highways bosses are urging people to stay safe and take notice of road closures which are in place due to flooding. In Lancaster drivers are asked to be cautious as there are still significant problems with traffic lights.
A number of roads around the village of St Michaels, in Wyre, remain closed. The village is inaccessible using the A586 from the west, however St Michaels can be accessed from the east using the stretch of the A586 which comes from the A6 at Kirkland. St Michaels Lane/Hall Lane is closed between the A6 at Bilsborrow and St Michaels. Rawcliffe Road is also closed between St Michaels and Hambleton. Not related to the flooding, Park Lane is also closed at Cabus due to a bridge being struck over the weekend.
In Morecambe and Lancaster, day centres for older people and people with disabilities are closed today but should reopen tomorrow. Staff have been working over the last two days to provide support to people in their own homes.
The services affected are:
Altham Meadows Day Centre, Westgate, Morecambe
Vale View Day Centre, Stratford Close, Lancaster
De Vitre Day Services, Ashton Road, Lancaster
Thorpe View Day Service, Torrisholme, Morecambe
Anyone wishing to visit a museum or a registration office in north Lancashire to check that it is open before setting off on their journey.
Some museums and registration offices have had to close temporarily as a result of power cuts and flooding caused by the recent severe weather.
Lancaster Castle and the Judges' Lodgings Museum on Castle Hill are both closed at the moment, but will reopen as soon as possible.
Lancaster Maritime Museum, based at the Custom House, St. George's Quay, Lancaster, had already been closed temporarily to allow building work to take place.
Appointments that have already been made to register a birth or a death at the Lancaster office, based at the Georgian House, 4 Queen Street and at the Morecambe office, located in Morecambe Town Hall, are being rearranged to take place later in the week at other offices. Anyone who has already made an appointment will be contacted directly about this.
Any marriage ceremonies due to take place at either of these offices this week will proceed as planned.
Anyone wanting to visit can check by visiting Lancashire Museums
