Tourism Businesses with Designs on Winning
Marketing Lancashire is pleased to announce that acclaimed fashion designer and style guru Wayne Hemingway MBE will be guest presenter at the Lancashire Tourism Awards 2012/13 which will be held at The Guild Hall, Preston on Thursday 13 September 2012.
Wayne Hemingway MBE was born in Morecambe, Lancashire and established his fashion label Red or Dead from a stall on Camden Market. He went on to win the Fashion Council’s Street Style Designer of the Year for three years running and his distinctive shoes, clothing and accessories acquired admirers around the world. He believes in the supremacy of design, whether in clothes or buildings and can count digital radios, foldaway bikes and even bottom shaped water butts, amongst his many creations.
At the height of his fame as a fashion designer he sold Red or Dead and now specialises in affordable and social housing. Projects include a new settlement of 3000 homes in Lothian and apartments in Manchester’s Northern Quarter. His high profile development on Tyneside won a series of major awards including Building Magazine’s Best Housing-Led Regeneration.
Wayne has also launched a series of Vintage Festivals, one of which comes to Preston’s Avenham Park from Saturday 1 – Sunday 2 September 2012, as part of the Preston Guild Vintage Weekend. Visitors will see the park transformed into a glamorous wonderland of art and design, fashion and fun, as Wayne and Gerardine Hemingway give this particular festival a bespoke northern twist.
Commenting on his role at the up-coming awards, Wayne Hemingway said “I’m really delighted to have been invited to present the Lancashire Tourism Awards, in such a significant year for Lancashire and for the industry as a whole.
“Celebrating the achievements of the county’s finest tourism businesses so soon after being personally involved in the Preston Guild, one of Lancashire’s most prestigious events, will be an absolute pleasure.
“I’m looking forward to meeting and congratulating the people who contribute so much to Lancashire’s thriving visitor economy and the welcoming reputation of which, as a Lancastrian, I’m so proud.”
The Lancashire Tourism Awards are the county’s premier awards; they recognise the outstanding qualities and achievements of tourism businesses across Lancashire, as well as the contribution they make to the county’s £3.25 billion visitor economy.
