Theatre on the Lawn season at Hoghton Tower
The annual Theatre on the Lawn season starts at Hoghton Tower on the 2nd June 2016 and promises to be one of the most exciting yet!
We have booked a range of different performances for the 2016 season, with some returning theatre companies such as Chapterhouse (performing Peter Pan and Wuthering Heights) and the Handlebards (performing Much ado about Nothing and Richard III). But we have also added some new faces to the bill.
Opening the season will be Mikron Theatre Company, in their 45th year of touring, Mikron are one of the UKs most prolific theatre companies, this year performing at 130 venues. During the Summer they tour by narrowboat, but in the spring and autumn travel the country by road performing at some unique and different venues. We have the privilege of welcoming them to Hoghton Tower on Thursday 2nd June for their performance of Canary Girls, an original piece written by Laurence Peacock. Set in 1914 it is the story of 2 sisters and how their lives change during World War 1 and their transformation from maids to shell workers.
We are also pleased that the Handlebards are bringing the Handleladies for the first time to Hoghton Tower, with performances of Taming of the Shrew and Romeo and Juliet. Fitting for the Bards anniversary year.
General Manager, James Dean says “Its great to welcome back both Chapterhouse and the Handlebards this year and we are really excited about the shows they are performing. Its also great to welcome some new faces and introduce people to something a bit different, with Mikron and the Canary Girls. We are looking forwards to a great outdoor theatre season and one things for sure, whatever your theatrical taste, there is a performance for you at Hoghton Tower!”
