The fun is all wrapped up at Blackburn’s Town Hall Street Fair

An artist who transforms worn out books into unique paper sculptures is to demonstrate the art of paper folding at the Blackburn BID's upcoming Town Hall Street Fair. 

Creative Kate Bufton will be sharing her tips on how to make stylish paper structures using old books on Saturday, 15 August at the Rebound Bookshop on Town Hall Street.

Kate, who works as a freelance artist and a part-time art technician in a school, will be running drop-in workshops for adults and children from 10am – 4pm.

Paper folding expert, Kate, frequently travels to exhibits across the country to show off her works at high-class art fairs and book fairs as well as online through her own website.

Kate’s healthy addiction to paper began as a student at Salford University when she started to manipulate old tomes to create paper sculptures and framed pieces. She said: “I love working with old books as they are incredibly tactile, by transforming the books into an object of art they are once admired and appreciated for the beautiful objects that they are. This will be my first trip to Blackburn and I am looking forward to bringing my workshops to the town and also to be working alongside a number of other artists at the Blackburn BID’s street fair.”
Other attractions include a mini-market, stilt walkers, free face painting for children and street entertainment from Theatre Company Pif Paf.

Manager of the Blackburn BID, Harriet Roberts, said: “The first two Town Hall Street Fairs helped to bring these independent shopping streets alive with activity and we look forward to another successful Saturday."
