The Flag Market as you have never seen it used before
You may have noticed something different about the Flag Market recently. As the weather slowly began to start showing its good side over Preston, new benches appeared. While a bench may not be something you ordinarily get excited about, these particular benches, with their distinctive blue wheels, may have captured your attention.
These benches, known as the Preston Bench, have been designed by In Certain Places, and built locally specifically for the Flag Market – their wheel added to allow them to be set up according to what is going on each day. This flexibility is precisely what the Preston City Council Events Manager was looking for to help transform the Flag Market into a place to go.
Surrounded by the fantastic architectural buildings of the Miller Arcade, Harris Museum, Sessions House and the Old Post Office, the Flag Market provides a charming space to sit, relax, eat, drink, read, chat and watch. This makes it the ideal place to host a range of city centre activities, from lunchtime performances to festival styled events. Featured within the exciting schedule for this summer are Armed Forces Day, Revival Vintage Fair, Summer Party with Rebecca Keatley (from CBeebies!), Giant Games Day and much more!
Councillor Veronica Afrin, Executive Member for Culture and Leisure Services for Preston City Council, said, “We are excited to launch the events schedule for the summer and develop the Flag Market as a city centre venue for a wide range of activities. The lunchtime performances that will take place throughout the summer will bring added charm to the city centre, while the weekend events offer diversity that will cater to all ages.”
