The Dukes Outdoor Sell Out

2 August 2016

The Dukes outdoor walkabout version of The Hobbit has completely sold out – a fortnight before its run ends.

Tolkien’s fantastical adventure has been entertaining audiences in Williamson Park since it opened on July 5 and is proving one of the Lancaster theatre’s most successful outdoor productions.

By the time The Hobbit closes on August 13, it will have been seen by 17,200 people, making it the hottest ticket in town this summer.

The Dukes Artistic Director, Joe Sumsion said: “We are delighted at the response to our version of The Hobbit. It’s really caught the imagination and has received great reviews and audience feedback with some people travelling from as far as Singapore to see it.”

The Dukes outdoor offering for 2017 will be Treasure Island written by Debbie Oates and booking opens in the autumn. The Coronation Street scriptwriter has also penned the theatre’s first play of its new homegrown season – The Ockerbys On Ice – a love story set against the background of cryonic freezing which runs from September 30-October 22 in The Round.

From November 25-January 7, family friendly fun is guaranteed again when The Dukes stages Pinocchio in The Round. Tickets can be booked now by ringing the Box Office on 01524 598500 or at www.dukes-lancaster.org
