Say Cheese for Lancashire Day – Winning Selfie
Over 13 Million people shared in the VisitLancashire ‘Say Cheese For Lancashire Day’ social media campaign, organised by Marketing Lancashire in partnership with visitor attractions Dewlay Cheese Shop and Bashall Barn Visitor Food Centre.
The campaign, to celebrate all things Lancastrian and to promote Lancashire Day*, invited visitors to share photographs or ‘selfies’ of themselves out and about in the county saying ‘cheese’ for Lancashire Day, for a chance to win a selection of Lancashire goodies. The images were shared through Twitter using the hashtag #Lancashireday, and via Facebook and Flickr.
The winner, announced today, is Leanne Tannahill of Newcastle Upon Tyne, who submitted a classic ‘selfie’ with husband Leslie, in response to the competition request for ‘selfies’ preferably with a recognisable attraction or landmark in the background.
Over 200 images made the final list, which was reduced to a shortlist of just five by a panel of judges from Marketing Lancashire, Dewlay and Bashall Barn.
The final casting vote was given to guest judge and huge fan of all things Lancastrian, Luke Marsden. Best known for his appearance as a contestant on Big Brother, Luke Marsden is now an acclaimed RockFM presenter and media commentator, with almost 60,000 followers on Twitter. Commenting on the winner Luke said
"It was a real honour to be chosen as head judge and choosing the winner was difficult, due to the high standard of entries, but Leanne’s really captured the excitement of being in one of Lancashire’s best loved resorts. It was just great to see so many people saying cheese for Lancashire Day!"
Leanne and Leslie are also great fans of the county, returning twice a year with their children Liam, 17, and Abbey, 15, for family holidays in Blackpool, Fleetwood and Cleveleys.
The Tannahills’ next holiday is already booked for August, when they’ll also redeem their prize which includes: A Lancashire hamper; £100 shopping voucher for the Dewlay Cheese Shop near Garstang; and afternoon tea for two at Bashall Barn, at Bashall Eaves in the Ribble Valley.

Notes to Editors
1. Marketing Lancashire is the new name for Lancashire and Blackpool Tourist Board (from 1st April 2012)
Our activities in marketing and communications, commercial membership, `Welcome to Excellence` training and place marketing are all designed to grow the visitor economy and develop the destination as a great place to visit, live and work.
In 2012 Lancashire attracted 62 million visitors who contributed around £3.4 billion to the local economy and helped support 54,804 jobs.
2. Lancashire Day* marks the date of November 27 in 1295, when King Edward I invited Lancashire’s first representatives to attend Parliament. Today this historic event is celebrated by the reading of proclamations, the participation in Lancastrian traditions and enjoyment of Lancashire food and drink. The Friends of Real Lancashire organise events across Lancashire on Lancashire Day and promote the historic boundaries of the county – which covers a wider geographic area than the administrative areas established in 1974.
