Preston-born television presenter and journalist Ranvir Singh, today (Tues 27 November) was officially welcomed as the county’s newest Lancashire Ambassador by Rachel McQueen, Chief Executive of Marketing Lancashire and Tony Attard OBE, Chair of the Board of Directors of Marketing Lancashire.

The announcement was made ahead of a Lancashire Day event being held at the House of Commons 1pm-4pm, hosted by Andrew Stephenson MP and attended by MPs and representatives from the Department of International Trade, Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy, the National Farmers Union, Visit England, Virgin Trains and Lancastrians in London.

The event is also a showcase for some of the county’s award-winning and new producers, part of the Taste Lancashire campaign to develop Lancashire as a must-visit destination for food lovers. 14 artisan producers from across the county are offering tastings and representing the county’s incredible food & drink community.

Commenting on her new role Ranvir said “Whenever anyone asks me where I’m from, and that can mean they’re asking either about my heritage or accent, my answer is always to proudly say ‘I’m from Lancashire’. It’s a huge part of my identity. I feel so connected with being Lancastrian, especially since I went to Lancaster University first and then to UCLan, and my first jobs in my career were in Blackpool and Blackburn.

“Even though my career has taken me away from Lancashire I can honestly say I’ve never felt the warmth, humour and straightforwardness in people anywhere else and nowhere else feels like home. I’m so pleased to be an ambassador for my home county and to lend my support in getting the word out about how much beauty there is to offer in this special part of the world.”

Rachel McQueen, Chief Executive of Marketing Lancashire, said:

“Ranvir is a wonderful champion of her home county and as Chancellor of University of Central Lancashire, is also an incredible role model for so many young people set on careers in media and broadcast journalism.

“Ranvir’s Lancashire roots and her position at the forefront of breaking news on Good Morning Britain makes her an ideal Lancashire Ambassador and we’re delighted she has agreed to support our ambitions to raise the profile of Lancashire.”

Ranvir will support a small number of key events organised by Marketing Lancashire, that will promote the county. The We Are Lancashire campaign launched in 2016, on behalf of the Lancashire Enterprise Partnership (LEP), created a Lancashire narrative that helped better define the county’s strengths, with the aim of uniting ambition towards economic growth and greater prosperity for Lancashire.

In October, Lancashire and England cricketing legend Andrew “Freddie” Flintoff, launched the Lancashire Ambassador initiative at Samlesbury Hall. Since then he has worked with Marketing Lancashire on a new short film; a rousing call to action to encourage business leaders across the county to work together to increase the national and international profile of Lancashire.

The film goes live on #LancashireDay and can be viewed on Marketing Lancashire Vimeo channel.
