Lncashire and Blackpool Tourist Board (LBTB) has been shortlisted for a much sought after Travolution 2010 Award; in the marketing awards section, Best Use of Social Media category for its current online promotion, blackpoolthemovie.com.
LBTB is the only tourist board amongst 130 finalists; a list which includes top travel brands such as Easyjet, Singaporeair.com, ba.com, LateRooms, Tripadvisor, Kuoni and MrandMrsSmith.com.
The Travolution Awards are unique in recognising companies, brands and individuals who excel in the fields of online travel distribution, digital marketing and technology. Judged by a panel of proven business leaders, experts and entrepreneurs, they are the UK travel industry’s highest accolade for innovation and excellence online. Companies and brands compete in a select number of categories, whilst entrepreneurs and rising stars are honoured in the individual awards.
Sarah Lundy, LBTB Digital Marketing Manager, commenting on the news said “e-marketing and in particular social media, is high on LBTB’s agenda. It has revolutionised marketing campaigns and promotions, enabling the team to be flexible and responsive to opportunities, as well as providing instant feedback and evaluation. It is modest in terms of expense but can have huge impact and allows us to engage in exciting and creative ways, with our customers.”
LBTB’s successful, online promotion, blackpoolthemovie.com invited visitors to upload images of friends and family from Facebook, which were then cleverly and humorously embedded in a movie trailer for Blackpool. Creating a 21st Century personalised, film-postcard easily shared via the internet.
Within the short space of two months over 800 movies were created and the website received more than 8000 visits. The visitors were then trafficked through to the main attractions in Blackpool, to boost ticket sales and raise awareness of the resort’s modern image.
A further incentive to creating a movie was the chance to win the ‘Big Blackpool Golden Ticket’. All films created were entered into the initial draw to win the prize which annual passes to Blackpool Tower, Pleasure Beach Resort, Sandcastle Waterpark and SEA LIFE Centre.
