Launch of Blackpool Breakfast Experience
Taking the old adage ‘Breakfast like a King’ to heart, visitors to Blackpool can now enjoy a delicious Blackpool Breakfast, safe in the knowledge that their food has clocked up fewer miles on its journey to their plate and is much fresher for it.
Just before Blackpool’s bumper Easter weekend, with some attractions reporting 20% more visitors than last year, Lancashire and Blackpool Tourist Board in association with BlackpoolUnlimited.com launched the Blackpool Breakfast Experience to nationally accredited accommodation providers, who attended a tasting at the Carousel Hotel, Blackpool.
The Blackpool Breakfast Experience is an initiative focusing on high quality, locally sourced ingredients, which in turn supports the local economy and offers guests a great start to their day in the resort. To qualify as a Blackpool Breakfast at least three items on the breakfast plate should be good quality local ingredients, sourced from local producers and suppliers from across the region; the details of these producers and suppliers should also be communicated to guests through each establishment’s menus and promotional materials.
One tasty option for inclusion, unique to Blackpool, is the specially created Blackpool Sausage, delicately flavoured with a hint of tangerine (as a nod to Blackpool Football Club). Developed in association with students at Blackpool and the Fylde College, the sausage has been through several tastings as well as a trial this February and is proving to be something of a hit.
One of the trial participants Diana Ogunbiyi, from the four star accredited Princess Hotel on Alexandra Road, said “We are all increasingly concerned with where our food comes from and we aim to source as much as possible from local producers, therefore cutting down on food miles and our carbon footprint. This is a very positive initiative which will appeal to our guests and we will be supporting it wholeheartedly. You’ll certainly see the Blackpool sausage on our menu.”
The Blackpool Sausage is being produced by a number of local butchers who are already enjoying the benefits of increasing demand.
Accommodation providers are also invited to participate in the new one day ‘Welcome to Blackpool’ customer service and product knowledge course, which includes details of the opportunities offered by the Blackpool Breakfast Experience and provides information of local producers and suppliers.
