Have your say on the development of Preston Bus Station
People can help to choose the design for the development of Preston's iconic bus station and a new Youth Zone.
Lancashire County Council is hosting a special exhibition at the bus station on Thursday 16 July and Friday 17 July. It takes place at stands three and four, from 8am to 12 noon and from 1pm to 4pm.
Each of the five shortlisted designs will be on show and people can vote for their favourite.
Staff from the county council's property team will also be on hand to answer questions about the plans.
The plans will see a multi-million pound investment in the Grade II listed bus station site, to create a vibrant public space and a home for the new Preston Youth Zone – while preserving the building’s unique brutalist architecture.
Public votes will be taken into consideration, accounting for up to 10% of the final choice, alongside architectural considerations. The winner will be announced in the summer.
You can also vote online at www.lancashire.gov.uk, from Thursday 16 July until Tuesday 21 July. The website address will be announced next week.
Five anonymous entries were chosen recently by the judging panel, and each design proposal has been worked on in more detail based on feedback. Almost 100 entries were submitted to the competition.
The architectural competition is being run by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), on behalf of the county council and Preston Youth Zone.
The Youth Zone project is led by OnSide Youth Zones, a charity dedicated to providing modern youth facilities based on the model of the highly successful and innovative Bolton Lads and Girls Club.
