Get ready for first Chorley 10K
RUNNERS of all ages are getting set to pull on their trainers for the first Chorley 10K and 2K Chorley Family Run, which both take place in Chorley town centre on Sunday 12 May.
The inaugural event, which has been organised by Chorley Council, with support from Fylde Coast Runners, will see 1,200 people take on a scenic two-lap 10K route and over 250 children and families run the shorter 2K route into Astley Park and back.
Both races will start and finish on Market Street in Chorley town centre with the 2K Family Run starting at 9.30am and the 10K race starting at 10.30am. Family, friends and residents are being urged to line the route and cheer on the runners.
On the day, there will be a festival atmosphere in the town centre with a running village on Fazakerley Street where community groups and local businesses will offer health and fitness information, sports massages and activities.
Additionally, there will be a climbing wall and face painting for children, food and drink stalls and businesses will be open across the town centre, including the Covered Market.
Councillor Peter Wilson, Deputy Leader at Chorley Council with responsibility for events, said: “The Chorley 10K and 2K Chorley Family Run have already proven extremely popular with places for the 10K selling out in under four weeks.
“There’s lots of people from the Chorley area running but also lots of people from across the North West and further afield. We’ve worked closely with Fylde Coast Runners to put on a great race and we can’t wait to see everyone crossing the finishing line and getting a medal for their achievement.
“We’ve also teamed up with some brilliant community groups like Chorley Runners, Couch to 5K, Chorley Lions, ABL Health and Active Nation who have been running training sessions and will be there on the day to provide activities, do the warm ups and help out on the water station.
“It’s set to be a fantastic day with lots going on for all the family, so whether you’re running or not, we’d urge you to come into Chorley town centre on Sunday 12 May and enjoy the atmosphere and occasion.”
The Chorley 10K is a chip-timed race with everyone who enters invited to raise money for a charity of their choice.
All Chorley town centre car parks are free on the day of the event with Woodlands Conference Centre car park on Southport Road also open for extra parking.
Anyone travelling in the area on the morning of Sunday 12 May is being advised that there are temporary road closures and diversions in place from 9am until 12 noon.
The closed roads will include:
- Park Road (Full length from Preston Road to Market Street)
- Market Street (from Park Road to St Georges Street)
- St Thomas’s Road
- Southport Road (from St Thomas’s Road to Ackhurst Road)
However, the road closures will not affect access to people’s homes with stewards positioned at all road ends on closed roads to assist residents with access.
