First Friday returns to Lancaster city centre on Friday 2nd September

Lancaster’s mini festival of the arts, First Fridays, will be teaming up with Morecambe’s Vintage by the Sea festival to celebrate all that is great and arty about Lancaster and Morecambe. There will be lots of free events happening both in Lancaster and Morecambe during Friday 2nd September providing entertainment for all the family before the Vintage by the Sea weekend.

Market Square will be a hive of activity with dance, a street band, a cinema and even a dry land synchronised swimming, for a cheeky bit of vintage seaside fun.

Sol Cinema, the world’s smallest solar powered picture-house will be returning to Lancaster complete with red carpet and popcorn. The cinema will be open from 12pm – 5pm and each performance will last 10 minutes. The film is completely free and there is no need to book, simply turn up to experience the fun.

At 1pm Yorkshire Life Aquatic, a dry land synchronised swimming team, will be dazzling viewers in Market Square before taking their vintage glamour to Morecambe for a 5:30pm performance at The Midland Hotel

BLAST! Furness street band will be stomping around Market Square playing an exhilarating mix of Latin, New Orleans and Eastern European music between 1:30pm – 2:00pm & 2:30pm and 3:00pm.

Local artists Jenny McCabe and Bonnie Craig will be hosting their Composite exhibition opening and demonstration at The Dukes Gallery between 6pm – 8pm. Jenny and Bonnie will be demonstrating the screen printing techniques they used in the creation of this collaborative exhibition from 6:00pm – 7:00pm.

Over in Morecambe the Mobile Milliner, Mary Jane Baxter, will be giving a talk about her life as a mobile maker at 2:15pm and at 3:30pm Mary Jane will be running a workshop on how to create your very own up cycled vintage-style seaside turban. Vintage by the Sea will have their festival opening event at 6:00pm the Stone Jetty Café in Morecambe with a welcome from Wayne Hemingway and music by local lad Kriss Foster. The opening event is free and there is not need to book, just turn up to hear all about what the festival weekend has in store.

At the Platform there will be an fascinating opportunity to peak into Morecambe’s past with an evening of archive film presented by the North West Film Archive. Archive screenings of this kind are always popular so early booking is recommended. Book at
