What’s on the menu?
Executive Chef Victor Yu and his brother Vinny co-own the award-winning Yu and You restaurant in the Ribble Valley and Yu Alderley in Alderley Edge, Cheshire. The restaurants specialise in creating modern Chinese cuisine with a traditional but contemporary twist. The Yu family’s style of cooking has seen their restaurant concept achieve numerous accolades.
At the Legacy of Taste Awards in London, Yu was awarded the Tier 3 Pagoda, the highest possible accolade, as one of only six Chinese restaurants in the UK and the only restaurant outside of London to have this distinction. In addition, in the 2016 Square Meal Top 100 Restaurants, Yu was in 44th place, as the only Chinese restaurant to make it into the top 100. Yu has also been awarded Cheshire Life Restaurant of the Year 2016 and Yu and You
was chosen as best UK Chinese restaurant by chef Gordon Ramsay.
Nigel Haworth is Chef Patron at Northcote, a luxury, independent 26 bedroomed country house hotel located in the Ribble Valley, Lancashire. Nigel joined in 1984 with a passion for creating traditional British dishes that champion locally sourced seasonal ingredients, and it is this approach which has led Nigel and the restaurant to hold a Michelin Star for over 20 years. Nigel’s love of food led him to open a cookery school at Northcote with courses delivered by Head Tutor Michael Vanheste and masterclasses available on selected dates with Nigel, Executive Head Chef Lisa Goodwin- Allen, and other visiting chefs.
Nigel’s class gives participants the chance to develop their culinary skills and techniques to create a Michelin Star meal at home with a focus on his favourite local and seasonal produce. Nigel is also a popular TV personality and has appeared on programmes such as Yes Chef, Saturday Kitchen, MasterChef and Great British Menu, which he went on to win in 2009.
Tom Parker from the White Swan at Fence is appearing on the current series of BBC Two’s Great British Menu competition alongside 23 professional chefs from around the country. After writing to former Great British Menu winner Nigel Haworth, Tom got his first job aged 16 at Nigel’s Michelin starred restaurant Northcote. Whilst there he worked under another Great British Menu banquet champion, Lisa Allen. In 2011, at the age of 21, he was awarded Young Chef of the Year and went on to become the youngest ever sous chef at Northcote. After a stint cooking in Mexico, he moved back to Burnley and became Head Chef at The White Swan in Fence. The White Swan is fast becoming a destination for anyone who shares Tom’s passion for food. With a glowing review from Jay Rayner in The Observer and a Michelin Bib Gourmand award, Tom Parker is reaching for his first Michelin star.
Lisa Goodwin-Allen is Executive Head Chef at Northcote and waspromoted to the position in 2015 after almost a decade as Northcote’s only female Head Chef. Lisa works alongside Chef Patron Nigel Haworth to maintain the Michelin Star that Northcote has held for the last 20 years and, like Nigel, is passionate about using seasonal and locally sourced ingredients to incorporate her Lancashire roots into her creative dishes.
Lisa’s impressive culinary skills have also landed her a number of TV opportunities such as serving her dish of rabbit & leek turnover to Prince Charles at a banquet celebrating the National Trust as part of BBC Two’s Great British Menu. She returned to the show as a guest judge in 2016 and was also a chef mentor on MasterChef: The Professionals in 2015.
In addition there are plenty of stands with everything from designer clothing to big tractors plus substantial parking.
