Castle Launches Picnic Season
Picnic fun at Clitheroe Castle
A FEAST of family fun and goodies galore will be on offer at Clitheroe Castle on Spring Bank Holiday Monday, when it hosts the Clitheroe Castle National Family Week Picnic.
Thousands of picnickers are expected to converge on the Clitheroe Castle Field for the event, which marks the end of the Ribble Valley MayFest, the borough’s month-long celebration of art, music and theatre.
The picnic also marks the start of National Family Week 2010 and Lancashire and Blackpool Tourist Board’s picnic season.
The event, which has received widespread community support, including from National Family Week, the Lancashire and Blackpool Tourist Board, the Ribble Valley Strategic Partnership and the Grand in Clitheroe, will feature traditional games, jewellery-making, face-painting, a WI cake stall, a mini-skatepark, circus skills and a sheep trail.
And goodies galore are up for grabs, including hampers of local produce courtesy of the Clitheroe Chamber of Trade and the Lancashire and Blackpool Tourist Board, tickets to events at the Grand and an Xplorer ticket giving unlimited access for two adults and two concessions to all Lancashire museums for a year. There will also be a feast of giveaways, including goodie bags, napkins, flags and balloons.
Robert Thompson, chairman of Ribble Valley Borough Council’s community committee, said: “The MayFest brought together some superb events in a celebration of Ribble Valley art and culture. It has been a great success and we are looking forward to a fantastic culmination at the Clitheroe Castle National Family Week Picnic.”
Jane Nethersole, operations director for National Family Week, added: “Ribble Valley Borough Council delivered a first-class picnic last year and Clitheroe Castle was a definite must to host one of our flagship events this year.
“We have every confidence that once again families will be provided with a great day at Clitheroe Castle that will do Lancashire proud.”
