Businesses urged to see how Pendle Council can support them

31 March 2020

A range of measures are in place to support businesses affected by Covid-19 and Pendle Council is urging local businesses to see how we can help.

“The response to the current coronavirus (Covid-19) crisis is making this a very difficult and challenging time for local businesses and their employees.

“That’s why we’re prioritising our efforts to ensure our local businesses get the financial help and support they need as quickly as possible,” explained Councillor Mohammed Iqbal, Leader of Pendle Council.

Businesses which qualified for Small Business Rate Relief on 11 March 2020 are eligible for a small business grant of £10,000.

Meanwhile, businesses in the retail, hospitality or leisure sector, can apply for grants of either £10,000 or £25,000.

The lower grant is for businesses whose property has a rateable value of no more than £15,000.

Businesses with a rateable value of more than £15,000 but less than £51,000 can get a grant of £25,000 per property.

Businesses with a rateable value of £51,000 or more do not qualify for this support.

Councillor Iqbal added: “Businesses can apply online via our website from the Small Business Grant Fund or Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Grant Fund via www.pendle.gov.uk/covidsupport

“Qualifying ratepayers will receive one grant per property and we’ll make the payment to the person who, according to our rating records, was the ratepayer on 11 March 2020.

“Once we have all the information we need, we expect to make payments from early April.”
