‘Breaking’ news….penguin chick set to hatch on Facebook Live
Keepers at Blackpool Zoo are preparing to share the hatching of their latest penguin chick with the world via Facebook Live.
The egg, which is currently in the bird nursery, is showing early signs of its arrival by rolling and tapping.
It is now a case of watching and waiting…….
The first live broadcast will take place at midday today (Thursday 22nd June) and each 15-minute segment will end with an announcement of the time of the next one.
Tune in to https://www.facebook.com/blackpoolzoo/ at midday and enjoy!
The expected arrival is a Magellanic penguin, a species which can be found on the coasts of Argentina and Chile. It is classified as Near Threatened by the IUCN Red List as more than 20,000 adults and 22,000 youngsters are killed each year by oil spills.
Expectant parents Ferdinand and Pringle will meet their offspring in the coming weeks after keepers spend time hand-rearing the chick.
