Blackpool named as the second best shoreline
Blackpool boasts seven miles of golden sands with award-winning theme parks and attractions – and now a new study has praised it for having the second best shoreline in the world.
It was pipped to the top spot by Dubai, while the Gulf of Mexico sailed in at third place.
The locations were rated based on the clarity of the horizon, sea colour, sand quality, cleanliness, interesting features, air quality and the weather.
The new study, commissioned by Royal Caribbean, was spearheaded by psychologist, Dr David Holmes.
He went about formulating a mathematical equation in a bid to scientifically prove which shoreline is the most seductive.
The seaside resort scored highly for its clean Blue Flag beaches and interesting features such as the world-famous Blackpool Tower, with only the British weather keeping it from the number one slot.
Others to make the top ten were Cape Town in South Africa, Cavelossim in India, Krabi in Thailand and Whitehaven Beach in Australia.
Touching on the results, Dr Holmes said: “While this formula may not account for every eventuality, the top ten hopefully helps holidaymakers identify the shorelines which are, scientifically, most impactful.
“All countries have good and bad shorelines; however some are stunning in their unpretentious beauty combined with iconic features. Shorelines such as Dubai in UAE score well across all elements of the formula, whilst others such as Inchydoney in Ireland offer wonderful experiences with the added benefit of attracting smaller crowds.”
It’s great news for Blackpool and only highlights how much the resort has developed in recent years. The resort has seen continued investment including 350million spent on upgrading the promenade and sea wall defences to the investment in improving Blackpool’s sea water and beaches. Whilst October half-term holiday is well underway in the resort there is full-on entertainment with everything you need to make the school holiday as good as it can be.
All of the major attractions are open for business; with shows and events; a brand new festival and loads of free stuff for everyone. Oh, and we’ve also got the world-famous Illuminations shining every night.
The LightPool Festival launches on 28 October until 2 November and will mark the penultimate weekend of Blackpool Illuminations, the festival transform the town centre with a spectacular walking route that will feature more than 20 art works from local, national and international artists, inspired by Blackpool’s history and linking together its iconic buildings. Each night in St John’s Square, a programme of live performances will wow visitors with light and fire displays from some of the world’s leading performance artists.
