Be Stress Free – at Lancashire’s new Wellbeing Farm

6 March 2013

Three years after quitting her role as an NHS Director Celia Gaze has opened The Wellbeing Farm dedicated to fighting stress and providing restful corporate away-days.

“I was in a very stressful job, working long days and weekends whilst also looking after a one year-old” explains Celia “Eventually, I went off with stress.  But it gave me the chance to re-think my life and I spotted a gap in the market for a wellbeing centre.”

Located in Edgworth, high above the West Pennine Moors between Bolton and Darwen, was her partner Stephen Whitehead’s family farm, Wheatsheaf Hill Farm.   It was this collection of buildings, some derelict and dating back to the 18th Century, that she decided could be transformed into The Wellbeing Farm.   With the help of Rural Development for England (RDPE) funding, the Wellbeing Farm gradually took shape and a modernised, well-equipped venue offering a variety of courses and activities emerged.

Outside, there are Llamas for trekking and lots of other animals to pet as well as plenty of opportunity for walking the rural paths and breathing in pure, fresh air.  Inside, there’s a purpose- built, ultra modern artisan kitchen exclusively kitted out with De Dietrich premium appliances.  Here, well known chefs Mike Harrison and Tom Bridge can create tailor-made hands-on cookery experiences in everything from cordon bleu cookery, to quick menu ideas for the busy professional.

The programme of courses, led by experts in butchery, weight-loss cookery, bread-making, traditional Indian wellness Ayurveda, gardening, crafts and a whole host of other life-enhancing activities is now available.

Celia’s final word on the subject “Our aim is simply for people to leave The Wellbeing Farm feeling they’ve experienced a special time that’s revitalised them in mind and body.  And we all need that sometimes!”

The Wellbeing Farm is just half an hour from Manchester’s Victoria Station and easily accessible from Preston M6, Blackburn M65 (junction 5), with ample parking available on site.
