Active Wellness Suite Coming Soon to YMCA Thornton

21 August 2024

YMCA Fylde Coast is thrilled to announce the forthcoming launch of its state-of-the-art power-assisted exercise suite at the YMCA Thornton Leisure Centre, set to open in September 2024.

The innovative facility named the ‘Active Wellness Suite’, promises a revolutionary fitness experience for individuals with specific health requirements and challenges and YMCA Thornton will offer free drop in sessions throughout September for anyone who wants to come and learn more about the suite.

The suite features power-assisted equipment that offers a full-body workout with minimal impact on joints and muscles, making it ideal for older adults, individuals with long-term conditions, those with mobility issues or rehabilitating from injury, and those seeking a more accessible fitness option.

This brand-new suite is powered by Innerva and funded by UKSPF from Wyre Council to support the Wyre Moving More strategy and encourage active and healthy ageing in Wyre. Local rates of inactivity are above both regional and national levels with 32% of adults in Wyre being classed as inactive and the Wyre Moving More strategy aims to change this.

Wyre Moving More is an ambitious five-year physical activity strategy developed by a cross-sector, multi-agency partnership to strengthen the connections between sport, physical activity and health and wellbeing by providing opportunities to get everyone in Wyre moving more.

Councillor Lynne Bowen, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Health and Community Engagement at Wyre Council comments,

“We are delighted to expand our leisure offering in the borough for our residents, providing this dedicated suite of innovative, accessible equipment, to ensure that everyone in Wyre, no matter age or ability, can enjoy the endless benefits that being active brings. The suite is a welcome new addition to the terrific facility at Thornton and works so well within our Wyre Moving More strategy.

We want to see as many people benefitting from the new Active Wellness suite as possible, I implore anyone who is interested in being more active, to visit the centre throughout September, learn more and try out the equipment.”

Key Features of the Active Wellness Suite:
• Social Wellbeing: Encourages community interaction and mental health.
• Aerobic Fitness: Boosts cardiovascular health and stamina.
• Muscular Strength: Enhances strength for daily activities.
• Balance and Flexibility: Helps prevent falls and injuries.
