Accessibility improvements completed at Shores Hey Farm
The HAPPA (Horses and Ponies Protection Association) Team are thrilled to share news of completed improvements to pathways at the Charity’s Farm based in Burnley, Lancashire.

The Charity was able to secure funding for developments to walkways around the Farm to improve accessibility for all through Lancashire Environmental Fund (LEF).
The path leading from the main car park and a path leading around one of the stable blocks has been made into a tarmac pathway which will allow for better access to these areas for all visitors.
This has been made possible by Lancashire Environmental Fund (LEF) which is a partnership between Suez Recycling and Recovery Ltd, Lancashire County Council, The Wildlife Trust for Lancashire, Manchester and North Merseyside and Community Futures. The Fund is financed by Landfill Communities Fund donations from Suez Recycling and Recovery Ltd together with a contribution from Lancashire County Council.
HAPPA’s Julie Pharaoh-Gan says “We cannot thank LEF enough for not only considering our project but helping HAPPA to make it happen. Looking back to when we first developed site in 2015 HAPPA has come a long way. Following a pathway improvement project back in 2022, which allows visitors access to see our horses and ponies playing in the fields, we just knew that with the increased number of people coming to the Farm it would only be a matter of time before we would need to develop further. HAPPA recognises that there are always ways in which we can make the visitor experience a little more pleasurable, we just needed the funds to be able to make this progress. With a significant number of visitors supporting the potential project we just knew we had to make it happen.
Making these improvements will mean a more comfortable journey around site for those of limited mobility, or those with pushchairs, buggies or prams. Due to the funding of this project HAPPA can continue to do what it does best; rescue, rehabilitate and rehome horses and ponies from cruelty and neglect.
This project is another huge milestone in the Farm’s improvements, and I am delighted that we were able to work alongside Monk of Colne again to make this happen.”
