The East Lancashire Railway’s Handy List of Half-Term Happenings

It’s that time again, the time when parents, grandparents and grown-ups alike are at their wits’ end to avoid THOSE dreaded words escaping their little ones mouths… “I’m bored”! Well panic not, the East Lancashire Railway has compiled a useful run down of great things to do over those long school free days to keep you and your family’s timetable of half-term fun right on track!

If you’re feeling crafty, steam down to Bury Transport Museum for a drop-in Children’s Craft Workshop on 22 February. Taking place regularly throughout school holidays, these creative quests will see children learn about transportation history whilst indulging their artistic side as they build moving vehicles, floating boats and various other bits of vehicular paraphernalia and decoration. Craft Workshops are £1.00 per child and admission into the museum is free.

Looking for something a little less messy and a little more magical? The first “term” of the School Of Wizardry begins on the 23 February. This themed family activity day will see you taking a trip alongside wacky wizards and weird witches to master spells and defeat the sinister sorcerers. Tickets cost £11.50 per adult and £7.30 per child and must be booked in advance.

True adventurers could join the Bury Transport Museum on 24 – 26 February to solve the Mystery at the Magic Museum. Can you and your family help a host of quirky characters unravel the ancient spell that has been bringing all of the exhibits to life? Book a spot on this interactive adventure to find out, tickets cost £8 per adult, £7 per concession and £5 per child.

For a unique adventure like no other, hop on-board one of the railway’s heritage steam and diesel train services and journey through the picturesque Irwell Valley. Trains run daily from 22 – 26 February.
