Make your December magical with First Friday

25 November 2016

Lancaster's very own mini festival of the arts is back on Friday 2nd December bringing family fun, a one off film screening and events exploring local history to the city centre.

Fun for families as well as the young at heart will be found between 12:30pm and 1:15pm in St Nicholas's Arcade and between 2:00pm and 2:45pm in Marketgate Shopping Centre where the Winter Sprites will be visiting. These mischievous creatures will float, flit and fly from person to place spreading festive cheer. This is a free event and no booking is required, just turn up.

There will be a special one off screening of The Passion of Joan of Arc in the beautiful surroundings of Lancaster Priory. Described as one of the greatest silent films ever made, Joan of Arc will be screened with an original live score composed and performed by Hintersound. Hintersound Lancaster based musicians Lee Affen and Ric Smithson have previously performed an original score for Nosferatu at Lancaster Castle. Tickets are available at www.dukes-lancaster.org and cost £12-£13.50.

Make sure you head to The Storey Print Room Cafe at 1pm for the launch of Port Stories, unique audio dramas that provide a walking tour around Castle Park and St George's Quay. Immerse yourself in Lancaster's Georgian boom and rich maritime history. At 6pm there will be a Talk back event at The Storey Lecture Theatre where you can hear first-hand from the creative team and the historians. Both events are free and you can just turn up.

There will be a lunch time preview of local photographer Nick Dagger's new exhibition Left Behind. Come meet Nick at Lancaster City Museum from 12:00pm – 12:30pm and be one of the first to see his haunting exhibition of what was left behind at Lancaster's Moor Hospital.

Other First Friday events will include Work in Progress, two brand new performances by Leo Burtin and Helen Gould, Art and Delicious Food at The Radish and Drawn to Music, an exhibition by local artists celebrating Lancaster Music Festival.
