The agreement will be signed at an event to launch the new Lancashire Narrative, on Wednesday 9th November at Burnley Football Club, hosted by the Lancashire Enterprise Partnership and organised by Marketing Lancashire, in the presence of Northern Powerhouse Minister, Andrew Percy MP.
Those organisations taking part in the Northern Powerhouse partnership programme strongly believe in the potential to grow the northern economy and are committed to delivering taking a role in driving growth.
The Northern Powerhouse programme has four key priorities: connectivity, transport and skills; science and innovation; quality of life and culture, and devolution.
Marketing Lancashire, with other partners within the Northern Powerhouse, will work collaboratively to attract inward investment, innovation, transport improvements, skills and job opportunities.
Ruth Connor Chief Executive of Marketing Lancashire speaking today said, “We believe that engagement in the campaign will facilitate real change, working with like minded businesses who advocate the strengths and opportunities that the North has to offer and helping realise its economic potential.
“We will of course continue to do what Lancashire does exceptionally well, leading in areas such as aerospace, manufacturing, energy, food & drink and tourism, but with an eye on supporting and sharing the successes of colleagues and partners across the North of England, for the greater good of the North.
“Working together is key to this success and Marketing Lancashire is delighted to have been invited to sign the partnership memorandum and we look forward to making full use of the opportunities that the Northern Powerhouse offers Lancashire.”
The Chief Secretary to the Treasury, David Gauke, said “We are determined to create a Northern Powerhouse and are clear we must work closely with businesses to pool the abundance of talent across the North to make this a reality.
Dozens of bold businesses are sending a clear message by joining us in this quest to make the Northern Powerhouse an even better place to live, work and invest in.
But this is just the start, and I would encourage other leading companies to sign up to our new scheme, so we can continue to work together to unleash the full potential of our great northern towns and cities.”
Northern Powerhouse Minister Andrew Percy said, “We are determined to create an economy that works for everyone, which is why we’re backing the Northern Powerhouse with the investment and powers it needs to unleash its huge untapped potential.
And with 187,000 jobs created in the North in the past year alone and billions invested through devolution deals, Northern businesses signed up to our new partner programme can be a catalyst for economic growth, not just in the North but throughout the country.”
