Blackpool Transport goes from Strength to Strength

22 September 2016

Blackpool Transport is celebrating 30 years as a company on the Fylde Coast, and to mark it, will be staging a strongman competition with a difference!

Come down to Blackpool’s Tower Headland on Saturday 24th September from 12 noon, as the company relives the 1980’s with a special display of strength featuring teams from across Lancashire.

Guys and girls from Blackpool Transport will be competing against a team from the Police and even American Football side, The Lancashire Wolverines!

They’ll be pitting their strength as they try and pull a Volvo single decker bus which has been completely repainted in the transport operator’s iconic 1986 green and cream livery!

Each team will pull the bus over a set course, and there’s a £250 prize to the winner’s chosen charity.

Big names expected on the day include:

Paul Smith, England’s strongman of the year 2016 who will perform a solo bus pull in a show of sheer strength.

Ryan Oldfield, Yorkshires strongman 2016 & Mark Anglesea, Two times Guinness world record holder will also be in attendance.

Organiser Chris Davies said “We’re very much looking forward to meeting our competitors on the day and showing them that 30 years on, Blackpool Transport is still going from strength to strength!”

In addition to the Strong man competition, there’ll be a chance to step back in time with a display of heritage Blackpool buses, some of which you may have used to catch to school and work over the last 30 years.
