Leyland in Bloom
Leyland is all set to look blooming marvellous this summer, with the news that the council’s horticultural competition is back for a second year.
Leyland in Bloom, the community contest which aims to add brightness, colour and civic pride to our local area, was launched last year in the town.
It was deemed such a success that green-fingered residents, businesses, schools and community groups are again invited to put their gardening gloves and show what they can do.
Judging will be over three categories:
Best Front Garden (domestic properties only)
Best Back Garden (domestic properties only)
Best Business Premises (outdoor display)
There is also a challenge open to schools to design and create a planting scheme with the theme of 'The Queen's 90th Birthday'.
The competition is being organised by the Leyland in Bloom committee which is chaired by Councillor Ken Jones, residents and business representatives, with support from South Ribble Borough Council’s Leyland Neighbourhood Forum.
Councillor Jane Bell, Chair of the Leyland Neighbourhood Forum, said: “I am delighted that we have decided to run Leyland in Bloom again this year. It’s a wonderful competition that brings communities together doing something which genuinely improves our local environment.
“The garden last year were fantastic, as were the gardeners and it was a brilliant event.
“The best thing about Leyland in Bloom is that it is open to everyone from individual residents to large businesses, and every single entry will go towards brightening up our town and making Leyland look lovely this summer.”
More information about the dates of judging will be released in coming weeks. Visit www.facebook.com/leylandinbloom
