Flood Recovery Support for Pendle announced
Pendle Council is helping people whose homes or businesses have been affected by the recent flooding, as the Government announces extra funding to help in the recovery.
Leader of Pendle Council, Councillor Mohammed Iqbal said:
“We’ve acted fast with immediate Flood Recovery Payments of £500, most paid directly to people whose homes have been flooded who we’re already supporting.
“Council staff have visited affected homes and businesses to make sure everyone who’s been flooded knows about the immediate payments,” he explained.
“Anyone in Pendle can apply to us for help if flood water has entered their home or business,” he stressed.
In addition to immediate payments, Pendle Council has pledged extra support by:
- Explaining how people can apply for a Flood Resilience Grant of up to £5,000 so they can protect themselves in future
- Offering immediate Council Tax relief for three months for anyone whose home has been flooded
- Urging people whose businesses have been flooded to apply to us so we can give business rate relief for three months (Non Domestic Business Rates).
- Collecting flood damaged carpets and any other bulky household items from affected people’s homes for free
- Collecting flood damaged equipment from small businesses* including affected farms, for free.
Information about payments, grants and support available including a Boost Lancashire Scheme with grants available are on Pendle Council’s website www.pendle.gov.uk/floodsupport and the Council can be emailed: [email protected]
The Council’s Contact Centre on Market Street Nelson can also advise people whose homes or businesses have been flooded on how to apply for one off payments, grants and Council Tax and Business Rate relief.
The Contact Centre is open from 8.45am – 4pm Monday to Friday and people can call in or ring (01282) 661661 or visit the Contact Centre on Facebook or @ContactPendle on Twitter.
Councillor David Whipp, Pendle Council’s leader for flooding issues said:
“As someone involved ‘hands-on’ with flooding on Boxing Day (and previous inundations) I appreciate the shock and trauma for the residents affected.
“It’s essential that residents are helped to get back to normal as quickly as possible.
“Pendle Council is pressing hard for long term alleviation work for the most vulnerable residents, in Earby and Barnoldswick, to reduce the risk of future flooding.
“Before Storm Eva, Pendle Council passed a resolution calling on the government to fund necessary work.
“This is something that’s being worked on hard to make sure local schemes are carried out at the earliest opportunity,” he added.
