Will Young To Headline Lancashire’s Symphony at the Tower 2016
Will Young is to headline the opening night of Lancashire’s spectacular Symphony at the Tower event.
The singer-songwriter best known for hits including Leave Right Now, Evergreen, Jealousy and Light My Fire will perform at the Symphony event at Hoghton Tower on Friday July 1.
The announcement Will is to open the musical extravaganza comes after it was revealed the 2016 Symphony at the Tower is to be extended to a three-day event.
It will close on Sunday July 3 with the Symphony Spectacular – a classical Proms-style concert for all the family to enjoy – going back to the roots of the original event featuring a live orchestra, picnics, family fun and fireworks.
Presented by music promoters Cuffe and Taylor, Symphony at the Tower is a huge fundraiser for Lostock Hall-based St Catherine’s Hospice with all profits used by the hospice.
Lorraine Charlesworth, Director of Income Generation at St Catherine’s Hospice, said: “We are very excited to announce Will Young as our first Symphony at the Tower 2016 headliner, another high calibre artist who we are confident will take the event from strength to strength.
“With a diverse back catalogue and impressive new album 85% Proof, Will Young is the perfect headliner to open our amazing weekend, and is sure to have the crowds singing and dancing along outside in the beautiful Lancashire countryside.”
Tickets for Symphony at the Tower go on sale at 9am Friday December 4.
Will Young first came to prominence when he won Pop Idol in 2002. Since then he has gone on to sell more than eight million albums worldwide, has enjoyed four number one singles and four number one albums, and has won numerous awards and accolades including two BRIT Awards.
2016 marks the 21st birthday for Symphony at the Tower and this year more than 10,000 people enjoyed rocking with Status Quo and a sophisticated picnic proms-style concert with Lucy Kay and Blake over the course of the two-day event.
Cuffe and Taylor are responsible for sourcing the acts and Director Peter Taylor said 2016 is shaping up to be a great event.
Peter said: “We’re thrilled to have secured Will Young for the Friday night at Symphony. Will has a fantastic following and is an incredibly talented singer-songwriter who is sure to please the crowds enormously.
“We are also delighted that we are going back to, and celebrating, Symphony’s roots with the Symphony Spectacular on the Sunday. This is a day when the whole family can get together and have fun while enjoying the most amazing live classical music.
“Symphony is such a wonderful event for us to be involved in as it gives us an opportunity to help raise funds for such a vital service while also ensuring families across Lancashire and beyond enjoy a fantastic weekend of entertainment from talented artistes and musicians.”
Details about who is performing on Saturday July 2 will be revealed soon.
St Catherine’s Hospice first started Symphony at the Tower back in 1995 as a one-day live music event. Cuffe and Taylor came on board in 2013 extending it to a two-day event.
In 2015 the event celebrated its 20th anniversary while the hospice celebrated its 30th birthday.
Tickets will be on sale from 9am Friday December 4 and will be available from www.symphonyatthetower.co.uk or from the hospice in Lostock Lane, Lostock Hall, Preston, PR5 5XU / 01772 629171.
