Children’s TV stars set to rock Chorley Flower Show
A TOP line up of family entertainment is planned for the new Chorley Flower Show with stars off the television headlining the children’s stage.
Dozens of people have already booked their tickets for the Chorley Council-run event, which will see Fifi and Bumble doing their ‘rock with the tots’ mini show and Alex from CBeebies hosting a pirates and princesses party.
A top line up of gardening and horticultural entertainment is also planned for the weekend, which will see the unveiling of Chorley’s award-winning display from this year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
Councillor Alistair Bradley, Leader of Chorley Council, said: “The new flower show is focussed on the gardening and horticultural entertainment but we know there are a lot of families in and around Chorley who will want to attend too.
“If you enjoy your gardening and want to come along to get some tips or buy some new plants and products then you can do that while keeping the children entertained too.
“We will have a main stage with performances throughout the day and there will be a vintage fair with a 50ft helter-skelter – it looks fun and don’t worry adults will be allowed to have a go too.”
On the Saturday (1 August) Fifi and Bumble from Fifi and the Flowertots will be appearing in their ‘Rock with the Tots’ mini show at intervals throughout the day. And on the Sunday (2 August) you can join CBeebies TV Star Alex Winters and children's musician Mr Yipadee for a ‘Pirate and Princess Adventure’. There will also be a surprise visit from everyone's favourite snow princess.
The vintage fair will include traditional fairground rides, the helter-skelter and a coconut shy – the rides will be charged at £1 per go and the stage performances from the television stars will be included in the admission price.
“When we’ve hosted children’s characters in the park they have been hugely popular with 8,000 people turning out to see the Rhyme Rockets at the Picnic in the Park a few weeks ago,” said Councillor Bradley.
“To avoid having to queue at the gate and avoid disappointment if tickets sell out we are urging people to book in advance – there’s a real good mix of entertainment and it will be a great day out for all generations of the family.”
Tickets are now on sale priced £4 adults, £2 children and £10 for a family ticket – you can get them online at chorley.gov.uk where you will find out more information about the show. You can also get them at the council offices, on Union Street, Malcolm’s Musicland, on Chapel Street, Café Ambio, in Astley Park, and at our kind sponsors for the event Botany Bay.
The event takes place in Astley Park on Saturday and Sunday 1 and 2 August and the area around the lodge and Astley Hall will be closed off from Friday 31 July until Monday 3 August. Access will be maintained so people can still get from Hallgate to the town centre at all times.
