Picnic in the Park rockets into Chorley
Families are invited to a day of free fun organised by Chorley Council in Astley Park on Sunday 5 July.
Picnic in the Park is back for the seventh year running with lots of free family entertainment including a special appearance by the CBeebies favourite, the Rhyme Rocket.
Chorley Council has teamed up with Rock FM to bring a fantastic family stage show to this year’s Picnic in the Park with performances from the cast of the Rhyme Rocket, children’s entertainers, top local bands and singers as well as dance acts, face painters, balloon modellers and more.
There will also be opportunities to meet and have your picture taken with the cast of the Rhyme Rocket.
The fun starts at 12 noon and will also feature interactive activities for children including sports, games, orienteering challenges, arts and crafts, dress-up, meet the animals of Pets Corner and not forgetting the opportunity to explore the new destination play area.
Plus, if you and your family like cycling, you can also take part in a seven mile Skyride, which departs from Astley Park at 2pm. Just bring along your bicycle and a helmet, then come back to the park after the ride and enjoy the rest of the festivities. For more details and to book on the Skyride visit goskyride.com/chorley
Councillor Peter Wilson, who is responsible for events at Chorley Council, said: “Picnic in the Park is always a fantastic event where people can come along with their family and friends to enjoy some brilliant entertainment in the beautiful surroundings of Astley Park.
“Come rain or shine, there will be lots going on between 12 noon and 5pm to keep the little ones entertained, so pack up your picnic goodies and sing and dance along to Rock FM’s family stage show.
“We’re excited that another CBeebies favourite will be coming to Chorley to entertain families on stage and then meet and greet people afterwards. Together with the sports activities, face painters, the Astley Hall pop-up experience and much more it promises to be a brilliant afternoon in Astley Park!”
If you are driving to the event please be considerate of the residents of Astley Village and either park at Woodlands car park on Southport Road and use the Ackhurst Lodge entrance to Astley Park or park at one of the town centre car parks, which are free on Sundays, and use the Park Road or Queens Road entrances to Astley Park. Hallgate car park will be open for blue badge holders only.
