Follow in the footsteps of a World War One soldier in Briercliffe
Lancashire County Council's libraries are helping people to discover what life was like for a Lancashire soldier during World War One.
Staff from the county council's community heritage team will take people on a local history walk in Briercliffe to follow in the footsteps of a local man, James Leaver, who fought in World War One.
The circular walk will take place on Saturday 20 June from 12.30pm to 2pm and starts at Queen Street Mill, Burnley.
Fiona McIntyre, community heritage manager, said: "During the walk people will see the houses lived in by James and his family. The walk starts and finishes at Queen Street Mill, where James worked as a tape labourer. We'll also explore places he would have known and perhaps visited often.
"The walk will help us to understand more about the life and times of those who fought and died in the conflict and the communities they left behind.
"It should appeal to people of all ages with an interest in local history as well as those who want an insight into what life was like during World War One.
"People can also take the opportunity to visit Queen Street Mill, after doing the walk, if they want to."
The walk is free to attend but booking is necessary as places are limited. Suitable footwear is essential.
