Talk Nerdy 2 Me at Preston Harris Library
A free convention to celebrate all types of nerdiness and fun will be held at Preston's Harris Library, Museum and Art Gallery on Friday 8 May from 4pm to 9pm.
The Talk Nerdy 2 Me 'nerdycon' is for geeks, nerds and boffins of all types, with interests ranging from Doctor Who to dressmaking and Star Wars to superheroes. The event provides an opportunity to indulge existing passions, but also to try new ones.
Victoria Todd, Lancashire County Council's library officer at the Harris, said: "The annual nerdycon is the only event in the North West and will showcase local authors, poets and speakers.
"Last year's inaugural event was a great success and attracted over 600 visitors.
"There will be a wide range of activities including a talk from Deborah Simms, a contestant on this year's Great British Sewing Bee TV programme, a seminar and Q&A session, an open mic event and debates.
"There will also be a competition and prizes for the best costumes. Indie vendors and big chain names will be running stalls."
Lauryn Baxter, a Lancashire County Council creative apprentice, said: "The event will be run by staff at the Harris Library along with youth forum, Hijack the Library.
Hijack the Library is a small group of committed people with a passion to involve more young people with libraries, and make them a venue accessible to everyone."
