Hoghton Tower celebrates 450 years with an incredible prize draw!

This year Hoghton Tower is celebrating its 450th anniversary since restoration by Sir Thomas de Hoghton in 1565. Lots of events are planned to commemorate the date, but the first of these is the launch of an incredible prize draw – the first in the Tower’s history – with the chance to win exclusive venue hire of the Tower for your own celebration!
The draw also marks the start of the Tower’s five-year Capital Fundraising Campaign. Not everyone knows that Hoghton Tower is a registered charity – the Hoghton Tower Preservation Trust – but all event and house tour income is used to keep the magnificent house standing and make improvements for generations of visitors to come. Amongst the plans for the next five years are development of a purpose-built visitor centre and the re-opening of the romantic Long Walk around the perimeter of the gardens.
Says Lisa Brice, Capital Campaign Manager: ‘This is a very exciting time in the Tower’s history – not only as we celebrate our 450th anniversary, but as we look to the future to ensure everyone has the chance to enjoy Hoghton Tower for at least another 450 years! Our fundraising campaign is an essential part of achieving this and we hope the public will join us both in our own celebrations and in this opportunity to hold their exclusive celebration at the Tower.’
Tickets for the draw, priced at just £1, will be on sale at the Tower from this weekend, when Crafty Vintage will also be brightening up the barn with their highly popular vintage fair. Second prize in the draw is a two-night stay in the Tower’s unique Irishman’s Tower self-catering accommodation, with a third prize of afternoon tea and a private tour of the house for six people. The draw will take place on Monday 21st December.

Hoghton Tower, a Grade I listed building, is the ancestral home of the de Hoghton family. Re-created in 1565 by Thomas Hoghton, this ancient, fortified, hilltop manor house is the only true baronial hall in Lancashire. With the creation of the Hoghton Tower Preservation Trust in 1978, the Tower today has become a destination for culture, education and entertainment. Walled gardens and imposing state rooms provide an impressive backdrop for family days out, a weekend stay, weddings and celebrations, corporate away days and cultural and educational events. From the past to the present, the house has many tales to tell, from the visit of King James I in 1617 to a troupe of Shakespearian actors arriving by bicycle to entertain the crowds in 2014. The house is open for special events and private group tours throughout the year, and from May to October for guided tours Monday to Thursday and Sundays. All admission and venue hire charges support the work of the Hoghton Tower Preservation Trust – keeping heritage alive for future generations.
