19 March 2015

Pendle has launched its new visitors’ guide in English Tourism Week with the announcement that the stunningly beautiful corner of Lancashire will host stage two of the Tour of Britain cycle race in 2015.

“Pendle will be the toughest part of the eight stage race which attracts the top cycling teams from around the world,” said Tourism Officer, Mike Williams.

The major event will help to put Pendle’s fantastic countryside under an international spotlight as it will be featured around the world.

Anyone who’d like to visit Pendle for a long weekend in time for the race on Monday 7 September can browse the online brochure at www.visitpendle.com

Or ring to request a copy by calling our Discover Pendle Centre on (01282) 856186.

The new guide includes details about Stage 2 which starts in Clitheroe in the Ribble Valley and ends in Colne, Pendle. Our iconic landmark Pendle Hill, world famous for its associations with the Pendle Witches of 1612, will be the striking centrepiece for the race.

“The Tour of Britain has the biggest live attendance of any sporting event in the UK and our stage has some of the most challenging climbs, which are a big attraction,” he explained.

“Make sure you book your accommodation in Pendle in good time,” warned Mike.

The race is part of The Great Pendle Summer Festival which includes our international Pendle Walking Festival on 15th – 23rd August and the Great British Rhythm & Blues Festival in Colne at August Bank Holiday.

The Visit Pendle guide highlights why Pendle in Lancashire is part of the UK’s Cycling Capital of Great Britain, including details about the new Steven Burke cycle track named after our gold medallist.

“Our countryside is perfect for cycling and walking and you can download a wide range of free routes from our website www.visitpendle.com/countryside,” explained Mike.

The new Visit Pendle guide also includes information on the world famous Pendle Witches with car, cycle and walks to follow and attractions like the Pendle Sculpture Trail and the UK’s only urban aerial assault course, Urban Altitude.

“There’s a full events listing in the guide for the year ahead so you can book where to stay in advance so as not to miss out,” added Mike.

“It also features our great towns and villages including the historic market town of Colne, the end of stage 2 of the Tour of Britain race.

This town on the hill has a growing reputation as Lancashire’s Capital of Cool  thanks to its individual shops, cafes, bars and restaurants.
