Flying the flag for Armed Forces Day

A special flag is flying from County Hall to mark Armed Forces Day.

The Armed Forces Day flag was presented to County Councillor Kevin Ellard, Chairman of Lancashire County Council, at a special ceremony yesterday by Lord Shuttleworth KCVO, the Lord-Lieutenant of Lancashire.

The flag will fly until Armed Forces Day on Saturday 28 June.

Councillor Ellard said: "This flag highlights the county council's appreciation of the contribution made by the UK's armed forces – past and present.

"People place their lives on the line when they serve in the armed forces. It's important that we take a moment to acknowledge their dedication.

"This year in particular, in the centenary year, we're looking back to the contribution made by Lancashire's men and women during the First World War."

The flag handover ceremony was witnessed by soldiers from Fulwood Barracks, veterans from the Royal British Legion and senior members of the county council – including County Councillor Darren Clifford, Champion for Armed Forces Veterans.

They were joined by Father Timothy Lipscomb, vicar of Preston and Chaplain to the Veterans.
