Fenwick Birthday Raised Money For The Blind
A birthday party for an 18th century Lune Valley pub raised more than £300 for a North Lancashire charity for the blind.
The ‘Fenwick’ village inn and gastro-pub at Claughton, between Lancaster and Kirkby Lonsdale, was celebrating its first birthday since being relaunched by Lancashire’s Seafood Pub Company.
And the invitation-only birthday party became a fundraiser for Galloway’s Society for the Blind which needs £850,000 a year to provide services for more than 7,000 blind and partially sighted people across Lancashire and Sefton as well as a national range of talking newspapers.
“We were thrilled to be invited to the Fenwick’s first birthday and are so grateful to all the team and generous customers there for raising such a great amount,” said head of fundraising and communications, Janine Bickerstaff.
“We’ll spend the money on our services for people living with sight loss in North Lancashire.”
Managing director of the Seafood Pub Company, Joycelyn Neve, explained: “All our Seafood Pub Company sites are community pubs as well as destination restaurants so they all support local causes wherever possible.”
The atmospheric 18th century Fenwick, with its large open fires, low-beamed ceilings and oak planked floors, re-opened in June 2013 – as the fourth pub in a group that will reach six this year.
