Blackburn in the Market for Groups

11 April 2014

Groups around the UK are setting their sights on a great new set of attractions in the Northwest of England.

Blackburn and Darwen Markets along with like-minded attractions in Lancashire are to open their doors to coach parties with their new Inclusive Tours.

The tours offer coach companies and organisers a unique opportunity to combine a trip to the award winning market with visits to a number of exceptional attractions.

Along with a visit to the superb market, the attractions on offer include The Chocolate House, famous for its handmade chocolates, truffles and fudge; Blackburn Cathedral which serves the whole of Lancashire and provides visitors with a truly memorable experience; King George’s Hall, offering the Afternoon Variety Show as well as Blackburn Museum and Art Gallery which has some marvellous collections and was the first museum to open outside of London.

The new Inclusive Tours campaign was launched at Blackburn Market this week by Councillor Maureen Bateson, Executive Member of Regeneration for Blackburn with Darwen Council. This was  arranged in conjunction with UK travel trade specialists Steve Reed Tourism Ltd.

Always regarded by local people as ‘more than just a market’, the new campaign aims to attract new generations of coach passengers along with their spending power.

David Smith is the Commercial Manager Markets for Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council:

‘We have something for everyone across the two Markets.  Blackburn is contemporary and modern in feel but very much offering everything you would find in a traditional market. It was also voted Market of the Year in 2012. Darwen is a traditional Victorian Market at the heart of the town and famous for quality, local produce and friendly service.  We are looking forward to offering a warm Lancashire welcome to groups visiting the two markets.’

‘We have put together a range of suggestions for coach and tour operators and group travel organisers in an effort to encourage them to bring their customers to our attractions. The new initiative allows us to actively promote and encourage coach companies to visit us. We value very much the contribution that can make to our local economy,’’ says David.

One of the Northwest’s biggest coach tour and excursion companies – Holmeswood Coaches – helped David get the new tourism drive underway.

‘We operate our own tours and excursions all over the UK so we know how important it is to attract groups of visitors to local attractions,’ says Jane Bostock-Gibson of Holmeswood Coaches.

‘Our company is now in its 67th year and our coaches are a regular sight all around the Northwest of England – and certainly in Blackburn as we have one of our depots there. So we are very glad to support the efforts of Blackburn Market to attract new groups into the town’
