A New Way Around the City
Visitors to Preston, the Guild City, should have no problem finding their way around, thanks to a new city centre map.
Featuring Preston’s key attractions, recent graphics graduate, Ric Bixter alongside UCLan graphics tutor, Pete Thompson, developed the map on behalf of Preston City Council and the Business Improvement District (BID).
The map will replace those currently in existence and be available at key locations, including the Visitor Information Centre, the train station, hotels and the university.
A version of the new city centre map will also form part of the new ‘way finding system’ which will be phased in as part of the public realm improvements on Fishergate and Corporation street.
Mayor of Preston, Councillor Veronica Afrin, said: “It’s important that visitors to Preston can find out what’s on offer along with being a practical aid to those unfamiliar with the city, giving a great first impression.”
Mark Whittle, Marketing Manager at BID, said: “We are delighted to have partnered with UCLan and the City Council to develop this new map. A lot of work has gone in to development and we are excited to see this appear across the city highlighting Preston’s offer.”
Pete Thompson, UCLan tutor added: “I have worked with maps for a number of years now before the opportunity arose for the creation of a new map for Preston city centre. I am really looking forward to all the hard work finally in print and being used.”
