Say ‘Cheese’ For Lancashire Day
Lancashire Day is celebrated on 27 November, marking the day in 1295 when King Edward I invited Lancashire’s first representatives to attend Parliament. Today this historic event is marked by the reading of proclamations, the participation in Lancastrian traditions and enjoyment of Lancashire food and drink.
To help raise awareness of Lancashire Day, Marketing Lancashire and partners Dewlay Cheesemakers of Garstang and Bashall Barn, located on Twitter Lane, Bashall Eaves have launched a social media campaign to invite Lancastrians and visitors to Say Cheese For Lancashire Day. The campaign with run throughout November and will be a celebration of Lancashire through a gallery of photographs uploaded to Facebook, Flickr and Twitter.
A panel of judges will then consider the final gallery of images and select a winner who best conveys the warmth, diversity and good humour of the county. The winner will receive a fabulous prize* including a Lancashire Hamper, £100 shopping voucher for the Dewlay Cheeseshop and Afternoon Tea for Two at Bashall Barn. A similar campaign in 2012 resulted in over 200 photographs being submitted.
Cilla Lowe, Digital Manager at Marketing Lancashire said “With people now creating 35 million photos a month on social media platforms, we hope that this year’s Say Cheese For Lancashire Day is even more appealing. It’s easy to get involved and this time, we’d like to encourage people to join the ‘selfie’ trend and take one of those arms length photos on their phone, with an unmistakable Lancashire landmark or attraction visible in the background!”
Conor Daunt, Commercial Director at Dewlay said “Saying Cheese for Lancashire Day is a way of celebrating the places and things we love most about Lancashire and, for many, that means a taste of Lancashire cheese.
“Together, with Marketing Lancashire and Bashall Barn, we’re looking forward to seeing a whole range of photos that capture the real essence of this welcoming and wonderful county.”
Take your ‘selfie’ or simply a photo of your favourite Lancashire day out, Lancashire Cheese recipe or ‘cheesey’ smile and upload to Facebook or Flickr, or tweet it on Twitter using the hashtag #Lancashireday
