On Tuesday 28 February, 2012 The Three Fishes presented a cheque of £8000 to the Bowland Tourism Environment Fund, which has supported the Bowland Experience and raised essential funds for an all-terrain Mobility Scooters.
“The money raised by The Three Fishes has been used to survey and map a total of 7 new trails as well as to provide funds towards remedial work on surfaces and gateways to make the trails possible to use by motorised wheelchairs.
These routes will be available from www.forestofbowland.com/wrc_access_for_all ,”commented Jonty Collinson, Chair of the Board of Trustees, Forest of Bowland.
The primary purpose of the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) designation is to protect and conserve the natural beauty of the area, whilst having regard to the social and economic needs of the landowners, farmers and communities.
The AONB also has a duty to cater for recreation and tourism, but only if this is consistent with protecting the natural beauty of the area.
It is for this reason that they promoting sustainable tourism within the Forest of Bowland: tourism which is dependent upon the area’s environment, and which seeks to enhance that environment, not detract from it.
Craig Bancroft, Managing Director of The Three Fishes commented, “It is with huge thanks to our customers that we have been able to raise such a significant amount for the Bowland Tourism Environment Fund. To achieve our goal of buying an all-terrain Mobility Scooter is fantastic. Every additional ‘Tramper’ scooter we can buy opens the door to our magnificent landscape for countless people who would otherwise be denied easy access.”
