Don’t miss the Biggest Lancashire Day in the County!
Nelson will be lighting up for the biggest Lancashire Day in the county on Saturday 26th November.
This will be our best Lancashire Day yet – and Nelson is already renowned for being the biggest in the county.
It’ll be a day packed with free events and entertainment to celebrate our Lancashire heritage.
The day will finish with the big finale of our Christmas lights switch on.
What is Lancashire Day?
Lancashire Day will start just before 11am with a reading of the historic proclamation by the North West’s Best Senior Town Crier, Pendle’s own Councillor Tony Beckett. He will read the proclamation on the hour, every hour. He explained:
“Seven hundred years after the first Lancashire elected representatives went to Westminster to join King Edward 1st’s Model Parliament, we’re still celebrating what it means to be a Lancastrian.”
What’s happening?
A range of traditional and up to date entertainment will perform on stage or around the new amphitheatre including the return, in a surprising new style, of the popular and hilarious Turismo Grannies. They took the town centre by storm this August for the official re-opening, following the town’s transformation.
There is a wide variety of food and craft stalls and children’s fairground rides. Chef cooking demonstrations will take place throughout the day.
Plus there will be a free ice rink!
Some traders are getting involved by dressing up in traditional Lancashire dress and have agreed to do late night opening until 6pm, please feel free to take part!
Lighting up Nelson
The town centre improvements include amazing new lighting. Key buildings like the clock tower light up in different colours at night and the Nelson Shuttle is illuminated from the inside. There are fairy lights in the trees we’ve planted around our attractive new amphitheatre and boulevard.
With the addition of Christmas lighting, the effect will be really magical and
Nelson Brass Band will play seasonal music.
