UK’s Best Selling Travel Writer to Present Awards

Lancashire and Blackpool Tourist Board (LBTB) today announced that award-winning broadcaster and the UK’s best selling travel writer, Stuart Maconie, will present the Lancashire and Blackpool Tourism Awards, taking place on Wednesday 10 June 2009 at Ribby Hall.

The awards are supported by the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA).

This annual event celebrates the achievements of those who have excelled in their field and have made an outstanding contribution to Lancashire’s visitor economy. The winners of these awards will progress to the Northwest regional finals, with the chance to go on to the national Enjoy England Awards for Excellence.

In 2008 Stuart Maconie, an ardent Lancastrian, was invited by the NWDA to join their campaign to promote tourism in England Northwest and over the last few months his travel diary Stuart’s Short Stories for Short Breaks  has been published in book format,  in national magazines and has its own dedicated website www.stuartsstories.com

Renowned journalist, columnist and author, Stuart Maconie is well known for his chart-topping books, Pies and Prejudice: In Search of the North, and the recently published Adventures on the High Teas: The Search for Middle England, and for co-hosting the Radcliffe and Maconie BBC Radio 2 programme. He has written and presented dozens of other shows on BBC Radio and TV as well as Stuart Maconie’s TV Towns for ITV 4. He can name GQ Man of The Year and Sony Awards Radio Broadcaster of the Year amongst his accolades.

“Stuart Maconie is genuinely passionate about Lancashire and the North West and through his writing and work has significantly increased awareness of the region. He writes with the warmth  and good humour that so typifies the welcome awaiting visitors to Lancashire; often highlighting the county’s hidden gems and more quirky characters, much to the delight of his readers.

“LBTB is delighted that Stuart has agreed to present our tourism awards and we feel sure that the finalists will be thoroughly entertained and rewarded by his presence at the event.”
