Lancashire’s first ever Picnic Month is launched

LANCASHIRE is to have its first ever Picnic Month during August as part of celebrations for Taste Lancashire 08 – the Year of Food and Drink, being co-ordinated by Lancashire and Blackpool Tourist Board.

Picnic Month was officially launched yesterday (Tuesday July 29) by the Tourist Board, Lancaster City Council and British Waterways with a Lancaster Waterbus cruise on the Lancaster Canal followed by a canalside picnic at Hest Bank near Lancaster.

The month has been devised to encourage visitors to the county to pack up a picnic full of Lancashire produce and explore the many scenic locations the county has to offer, and also for Lancastrians to enjoy a picnic outdoors.

The month will feature picnic events and itineraries, competitions, ideas on local produce to include in picnics and places across Lancashire ideal for picnicking. Full details can be found on www.tastelancashire08.com under Picnic Month.

Barbara Howorth, Taste Lancashire Executive at Lancashire and Blackpool Tourist Board said:

“We have also been working in partnership with Booths supermarkets to produce picnic boxes with food and drink samples as well as a leaflet promoting the location of picnic sites. These are currently being sent to self-catering properties around the county and to tourist information centres to create window displays.

“With summer finally here, there really is no better time to enjoy Lancashire than by picnicking at perhaps the Crook O’Lune near Lancaster, in Blackpool’s Stanley Park, at Barley near Pendle Hill, or in Worden Park, Leyland.”
