Anderton Centre offers exciting world of outdoor fun to help escape pandemic

The boss of an outdoor activity centre says it is firmly back in business with the latest easing of Government lockdown restrictions.

David Germain, CEO of The Anderton Centre, says he is excited for the future following the news that people are now allowed to exercise outdoors.

The outdoor education residential and day visit centre, located between Bolton and Chorley on the banks of Lower Rivington Reservoir, is part of the University of Bolton Group.

David, who has led the centre for the last three years and was recently appointed CEO, said: “The facilities and activities we offer at Anderton are absolutely perfect in terms of tying in with the gradual road map out of lockdown.

“People can come to this beautiful part of the world on their doorstep and take part in all kinds of exciting activities – both on water and land – and they can do so in a Covid-secure environment.

“Such activities have never been more important than they are now, as being outside is a clearly a mitigating factor for reducing the transmission of Covid-19.”

David added: “I am extremely passionate about providing high quality outdoor education experiences for all.

“I am privileged to officially be driving the strategic direction of the organisation, ably supported by Anderton’s board of voluntary trustees.”

The organisation has recently grown its portfolio to include a second site at High Rid Reservoir and has acquired a mobile climbing wall.

Aris F Mattheou, Chairman of The Anderton Centre, said: “I am delighted that following the government’s latest easing of restrictions we can offer our fantastic facilities to people of all ages.

“An open-air venue such as The Anderton Centre provides the perfect opportunity to get people exercising again.

“It is the ideal choice, as physical activity has also been scientifically proven to give a great boost to mental health and wellbeing.”

Trevor Pledger, Vice Chair of the Lancashire Outdoor Activities Initiative, said: “We are really excited for the future direction of the charity and especially proud we have been able to retain our team of passionate, professional staff through the pandemic.”

In addition to providing activities, the Anderton Centre is the ideal place to host an event, meeting or conference, with additional high-quality corporate team-building packages on offer, all presented in a Covid-secure environment, with a range of safety measures that have been implemented.

The centre caters especially for schoolchildren and has had to adapt its services while schools have been closed for much of the past 12 months during lockdowns.
