Top chefs take Lancashire to London for culinary showcase
Celebrating Lancashire Day with a pop-up restaurant for the country’s top critics
A selection of Lancashire’s award-winning chefs and Taste Lancashire Ambassadors head to London to celebrate Lancashire Day by preparing a 6-course meal for top food writers, critics and industry insiders at the Guild of Fine Food in Southwark on Lancashire Day (Wednesday 27th November).
The team heading to London boasts the UK’s number 1 restaurant, 5 of the UK’s Top 50 Gastro Pubs, Gastro Pub Chef of the Year, Dining Pub of the Year and Lancashire Life Restaurant of the Year among their most recent accolades.
The event, supported by Nelson-based food supplier Wellocks, The Whalley Wine Shop and official travel partner Virgin Trains, is part of the county’s Lancashire Day celebrations on 27 November, when the county celebrates Lancashire’s traditions, culture and accomplishments.
The six award-winning chefs cooking on the day are Mark Birchall, Chef Patron of 2 Michelin Starred Moor Hall (UK’s No.1 Restaurant in the Estrella Damm National Restaurant Awards), Chris Bury, Head Chef from The Cartford Inn (Top 50 Gastropub), Stosie Madi, Chef Patron of Parkers Arms in New in Bowland (Top 50 Gastropub and no.38 in Estrella Damm UK Top 100 Restaurants 2019), Oli Martin¸ finalist in BBC One’s Masterchef: The Professionals 2018 and Head Chef of 4 AA Rosette Hipping Hall (Lancashire Life Restaurant of the Year 2019 and Taste Lancashire Restaurant of the year), Steven Smith, Chef Owner of the Freemasons at Wiswell (Top 50 Gastropub and Gastropub Chef of the Year 2019) and Mark Taft, Executive Chef at Seafood Pub Company (Top 50 Gastropub for The Assheton Arms also named Good Pub Guide ‘Dining Pub of the Year 2019’).
Also attending and supporting the event are Taste Lancashire Ambassadors Nigel Haworth and Paul Heathcote MBE.

Food and drink is worth around £1.1billion to Lancashire’s visitor economy which along with shopping is the largest area of visitor expenditure for the county.
The menu features a wealth of Lancastrian producers, including Booths, Burholme Farm, Calyx Drinks Ltd, Choc Amor, Goosnargh Gin, H&P Ascroft, Midland Fish Company, Old School Brewery, Pugh’s Piglet’s, Smithy Mushrooms, Wellocks, Wellgate Fisheries, The Bee Centre and The Whalley Wine Shop.
