The Fleetwood primary school in this year’s Britain’s Got Talent Final needs your vote
A primary school’s bid to win Britain’s Got Talent 2019 is being backed by Lancashire County Council.
Following their previous golden buzzer success, Flakefleet Primary School have made it through to the Britain’s Got Talent final.
Pupils from the school, with their headteacher David McPartlin, will perform this Sunday (2 June) in the finals of the TV show. Viewers at home, and not the judges, will choose the overall winner.
The boys and girls, aged five to 11, secured their spot in the semi-finals back in January when judge David Walliams selected the school as his Golden Buzzer act. This meant that the school went straight through to the live semi- final which aired on ITV on Monday 27 May.
In the live semi-final, pupils from the primary school performed classic 80s song I Need a Hero by Bonnie Tyler, led by their head teacher.
For their choreographed performance, the children dressed as wizards, knights, teddy bears and dancing flower pots.
Flakefleet Primary School made the top three, before the judges chose them to go through, along with the semi-final winners PC Dave Wardell and his retired police dog Finn.
In January, the school previously performed a choreographed routine to Don’t Stop Me Now by Queen. Their performance earned them a standing ovation from all four judges, before David Walliams hit the golden buzzer to give them their semi- final place.
County Councillor Phillippa Williamson, cabinet member for children, young people and schools, said: “This is a fantastic achievement. It just shows what our pupils can achieve and demonstrates just how creative education can be.”
“I’d like to wish the children every success. I can’t wait to see what they will do next. It is so important that people vote for them on Sunday, as it is the public vote which will crown them as the winners. They’ve certainly got my vote.”
Dave McPartlin, headteacher at Flakefleet Primary School, said: “To get through to the final is fantastic, as well as being beyond belief!
“It all started out as an opportunity to show the children that they can achieve anything.
“#Dare to Dream is what we live and breathe at school, and who knows what will happen on Sunday. We are a finalist in a show that is a TV highlight, and is expected to have one of the biggest audiences of the year. This is just incredible. We are rehearsing like mad, and most importantly the children are having a fantastic time.
“No matter how well we do in the final, this has been a tremendous opportunity for the children. I’m proud of every single one of our pupils, not just the children who take part in our choir, but also the support from teachers, parents and the town itself has been absolutely amazing. I just hope that people will get behind us one more time and vote for us on Sunday.”
The overall winners of the show will win a £250k cash prize and will perform at this year’s Royal Variety Performance in front of royalty.
Last week David Walliams surprised the Flakefleet Primary School pupils with an impromptu visit – after making a dramatic arrival by helicopter.
Flakefleet Primary School has already been given the accolade at the National Happiness Awards of ‘the happiest in Britain.’
The school also made headlines last year with their re-enactment of the Royal Wedding. Videos of them recreating Fat Les’ Vindaloo during the World Cup went viral.
The final of Britain’s Got Talent 2019 will be broadcast on Sunday 2 June at 7.30pm on ITV. It is set to be one of the biggest shows on TV this year.
