Stonyhurst Enterprises are delighted to share with you the launch of the first Stonyhurst Literature and Film Festival on Friday 16th and Saturday 17th August 2019.

To tell you more about the event and what they can do to support local businesses, they invite you to join them at their Business Launch Event on Wednesday 8th May 2019 from 5pm onwards at Stonyhurst College.

Stonyhurst College is one of Britain’s leading Catholic boarding schools, with over 400 years of history, set in a magnificent Grade 1 listed building and home to the oldest museum in the English-speaking world. The College’s fascinating collections boast an impressive array of artefacts and first editions. Amongst these rare first editions is William Shakespeare’s First Folio, often regarded as the most important piece of work in the history of English Literature, as well as Charles Dicken’s Oliver Twist and Lewis Carroll’s Through the Looking Glass.

The College’s association with some of the country’s most prolific literary figures demonstrates Stonyhurst’s rich literary heritage. Alumni include Sherlock Holmes creator, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Jesuit priest and poet, Gerard Manley Hopkins.

Inspired by the Oxford and Blenheim Palace Literature Festivals, the Stonyhurst Literature & Film Festival aims to establish a festival revered across the North of England and showcase all that Lancashire has to offer. The festival programme will feature celebrated authors, literary critics and speakers covering a broad range of genres and a number of diverse cultural and popular topics. Speakers already secured include the likes of Ann Widdecombe and Simon Callow, and the event is supported by Blackwell’s bookstores.

The two-day festival will culminate with an outdoor cinema screening of the Oscar-winning film, Bohemian Rhapsody. The film will be shown in the magnificent grounds of the College, overlooking the stunning Ribble Valley countryside. We want our visitors to experience a quintessential English summers evening, sampling some of Lancashire’s finest food and drink, whilst discovering the creative pleasures of film.

Their aim is to promote the ‘Lancashire Experience’ and attract visitors from across the UK to experience the delights of the Ribble Valley. To achieve this, they are committed to building relationships with a network of businesses across Lancashire, to showcase this area of unrivalled splendour and actively promote their partners. They want their visitors to know about the best hotels, pubs, eateries and tourism spots across the area.

To this end, they invite you to the Stonyhurst Literature & Film Festival Business Launch event on Wednesday 8th May, from 5.00pm.

They have a number of advertising opportunities available to businesses associated with the Festival, as well as the option to offer discounts or vouchers to visitors, or attend the event in a sales capacity. They are looking for food and drink stalls to sell their services on the evening of the open-air cinema, if this is you, let them know!

They very much hope to welcome you to the College and share their vision for the Stonyhurst Literature and Film Festival.

Join them for a glass of fizz, as they celebrate the best businesses in Lancashire and ask you to join them in promoting the ‘Lancashire Experience’ to a wealth of new visitors.

Please RSVP by Friday 3rd May to [email protected].
